The wayang kulit or known as nang talung in Thailand showcases detailed craftsmanship. Although shadow puppets are usually only seen in silhouettes, they are nevertheless fastidiously painted using fine brushwork to elaborately render facial detail, clothing and jewellery.

Although shadow puppets are prevalent in Java in Indonesia and Kelantan in Malaysia, in Nakhon Si Thammarat where I had the chance to visit a museum display of shadow figures including a rare 200-year-old figure and other puppets from Turkey, India, China, Malaysia and Indonesia.
